Alejandro Matamalas was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the age of 15 he started surfing in the coastal city of Mar del Plata. Since then his passion for the sea and surfing has led him to travel the world (Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Spain, Portugal, France, among others) in search of good waves. In 2014 he decided to move to Costa Rica to be able to live in one of the beaches with the most consistent waves in the world.
Another of his passions is photography, thus developing in the last 15 years his career as a photographer of surfing and other water sports.
After several years of experience as a surfer and photographer, Ale created his own surf academy, becoming the founder of Tiqui Surf Academy in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica.
His goal is to continue growing as a surfer and as a coach, which is why he became interested in the world of freediving and joined the Underwave project as a Level 1 Instructor.
