Raúl García was born on March 28, 1990, in La Plata, Argentina. He started surfing at the age of 6 in Santa Teresita, Costa Atlántica. He currently resides in Costa Rica and holds qualifications as a lifeguard, swimming instructor, and surf instructor.
His recent achievements include securing the 2nd place in the “Best Wave of the Year” competition by Quiksilver and participating in the international big wave tournament “El Buey” in Chile. In terms of his big wave experience, he has 11 seasons in Puerto Escondido, Mexico (2012-2022), one season in Tahiti, Teahupoo (2019), spent 4 months in Fiji at Cloudbreak (2019), had 3 sessions of giant swells in Mavericks, California (2021), participated in the “El Buey” tournament in Arica, Chile during the giant swell of the decade (2022), and completed one season in Nazaré, Portugal (2023) while staying at the CARSURF (a high-performance center for surfers).
Raúl has spent 12 years living in Costa Rica, actively seeking out giant swells and training as a base to achieve his annual goals.
His primary objective is to instruct and mentor new generations in the world of big waves, sharing his experiences and safety methods learned. At the same time, his ultimate goal is to have fun and attempt to break the record for riding giant waves.
